David Jetmore on Freedom and Identity
October 27, 2026
What does it mean to be free? And do we choose who we are or is it something we inherit? In this 10th episode of Conversations with my Father, Kate and David Jetmore explore the moments that shape our identities, from college jobs and early ambitions to youthful skirmishes, family expectations, and the growing freedom to say no. David reflects on a life shaped by hard work, natural talents, and the people around him, and explains why he feels no envy for the lives he might have lived.
“You know, people say, gosh, I wish I could do that. Gosh, I wish I was, I could sing like that, or I wish I could play the guitar like that, or… Well, that’s, you can. When you’re looking at that musician on stage thinking, gosh, I wish I could do that. Well, that guy or that woman has worked their ass off to achieve that level of performance. And, you know, I have no patience for… it’s not magical, it’s… it all comes down to hard work.” (David, 35:53)
