David Jetmore on Technology
September 29, 2026
What have we gained from technology, and what have we lost? In this month’s episode, Dad and I look back at the arrival of electricity, the telephone, TV and other technologies that transformed everyday life. We go from front porches and storytellers to Amish communities and gadgets that are now obsolete. But beneath the nostalgia lies a deeper question: While technology makes life easier and more connected in some ways, are we becoming more isolated in others? As we wrap up, Dad shares what he hopes future generations will never lose: human interaction, conversation, and the joy of doing things together.
“Is technology a good thing? Yes. You know, it’s so much better to have a hammer to drive a nail than a rock. So yeah, it’s a good thing. You know, are there downsides to technology? Of course there are. But everything in life is a trade-off. And we invent this technology, and it makes our lives better in some way, or it wouldn’t have been invented. We wouldn’t want it. We wouldn’t need it. We wouldn’t keep it.” (David, 27:42)
